I am getting to like this lens more and more.
Thanks to Brent for selling it to me and thanks to Erik for modifying it for me!
Depth of field is practically nonexistent when mounted on an FX camera, but that doesn't mean that images cannot be obtained :)
-
DOF? Do we really need to care?
Wonderful images!
-
I am getting to like this lens more and more.
That is understandable - fabulous images!
-
Beautiful color and abstract-ness. Thanks for sharing.
-
Really good, Jakov. I, too, like this lens.
-
Amazing. Beautiful gradient color composition.
-
You are all too kind, thank you so much, Woodley, Lars, Andrew, Bruno, and Akira :)
You don't think about sharpness, you don't think about auto-focus, you don't think about zooming, basically there is very little that you think about apart from composition. It is so liberating to think only about shapes and lines...
-
I can easily imagine this hanging on the walls of a upscale hotel
wonderful images
Seems to be the antithesis to what Michael Erlewine does, throw away sharpness, keep the fabulous colors and composition
-

Yes, that's how your intuition starts to work...
-
Wonderful results Jakov. I´ll love to be there one day to see how you produce your magic
-
great colours - happy easter
-
Thank you Armando for your kind words. I would love to see a photo of mine hanging large in a fancy hotel :)
Akira, as I said, it's liberating in its limitations. You do it too. I remember very well what you did with that funny 50mm of yours :)
Paco, there is nothing I would more like than to catch up with you in Seville! Thanks!
Thomas, thanks, Happy Easter!
-
beaut images ! Particularly like the last one for the way its relative structure melts and merges into the ether.

That funny 50mm is in the hands of our source of inspiration. I still keep the CRT, though. :)

Thank you, Colin!
Much appreciated!

Fascinating shot Jakov - it was worth waiting for! :)
-
Thank you Lars so much for your comment!
-
Very poetic and with those ethereal circles.. Jakov, Jakov, Jakov!
-
thank you so much, Paco!
lavender, take two.
balcony, a red car as background.
-
Super shots, Jakov !
-
Lovely stuff indeed :-)
Seems the lens is rather hard to find on the used market at the moment though :(
-
Really beautiful work!
-
John, super thanks!
Snoogly, thanks to you too. I bought this lens from one of our members, Brent Elliot, for about $40.
Erik, modified the lens to F-mount. (what a guy)
Birna told me it was better suited for C-mount because of the smaller distance between the rear element and the sensor. For the same reason I suspect it is better suited for Z-mount, too.
All I need to do now is buy a Z-fc (and get that guy to modify it again)
As it is now, I can barely get anything sharp. But that doesn't mean that i don't have fun with it.
Thank you, Dogman!
Here is another from the lavender on my balcony series.
Speaking of smoothness.
-
You rule in the ethereal realm, dear Jakov !
Sharpness is overrated 8)
This builds up to be a very nice study of lavender.
-
You are so kind Hans, thank you so much for your comments!
Sharpness, what's that? ???
-
You make that lens sing Jakov, with flavor and diversity.
Thanks for sharing it!
-
Thank you, Paco!
Here is a take on Alocasia Amazonica.
-
A piquant series of images. Thanks for posting these Jakov.
-
Thank you so much, Bob!
The lens is piquant, indeed. :)
Here is another take of the Alocasia Amazonica.
-
It is getting even better! Love the sci-fi abstract flavor here
-
Jakov, the recent two shots are amazing :o
-
Thank you so much Lars and Paco!
How a millimeter can make a huge difference, take 3.
-
Lovely work Jakov very cosmic!
-
I fondly remember the tendency of the 42mm to create those nice circles "everywhere". That set the lens apart from most other X-ray optics. My Kowa 55mm f/0.8 has a similar tendency, but not to the same extent as the Rodenstock.
Perhaps I should get hold of a new sample for my Z cameras? Sold of my 42 Rodenstock many years ago, but kept the longer focals 50-100mm.
-
(Jakov, Jakov, Jakov!)^3!
-
Thank you, Fons. The results are cosmic, indeed.
Birna, I would love to see your images made with this lens.
Akira, 3x thanks!
4th and last take of Alocasia Amazonica.
-
Thank you for sharing these TV pictures ;D So glad to see you get so great images out of it!
-
It would have been impossible without you, Erik!
Thank you!!!
-
I’d love to join the TV club, but all I can find is a new, boxed, one for about 500 euros. It’s an astronomical price, compared to the $100 to $300 of used lenses in the past.
But the supply of cheap used ones seems to have dried up.
Would I be mad to pay that price for a ‘new’ one?
-
Richard, this is a lens that I use once in a blue moon.
How to justify any expense related to it, beats me ::)
-
It is perfectly and totally justified with any of the images above ;)
-
Paco is a great salesman! <3
-
I took the plunge!
In fact I had already ordered the bespoke raf camera adapter, while I was still procrastinating, so I suppose buying the lens was inevitable ….
I will write it off as a 62nd birthday treat for myself :)
-
Richard, you fully deserve it! Congrats on your 62nd birhtday!
I can hardly wait to see the results! (and blame Paco for the expense)

Ditto!
-
LOL! Like a bus, one comes, and then another one soon after!
A few hundred $ cheaper than the one I bought, but there for another brave soul to plunder!

I have no doubt my purchase triggered this one to be listed. :-( :-)
-
Buy this one, too. Such a good price.

You are a truly evil enabler, Jakov. :D ;)
-
With two, you will then be a two TV Heligon Hooligan! LOL ;D ;D ;D
Buy this one, too. Such a good price.
-
;D ;D
Dogman and Hugh, we all have various backups/spares: hard disk drives, memory cards, camera bodies, batteries, etc. Why not a Heligon? I have got two ;)
-
Yes indeed - me also. I always buy hard disk drives in multiples of two and keep duplicate copies of data on each. Ditto for favourite lenses and I always travel with backup bodies and lenses. An inexpensive outlay when compared to the cost of plane fares and hotel bills.
People seem to be having so much fun with the Heligon, that I could not suppress my smart arsed remark about hooligan behaviours! ;D
;D ;D

Well, … after the longest ever DHL delivery from Germany I may have the lens in my hand tonight! I have had the three components for adapting to Z mount for two weeks now, so the final arrival of the lens is much anticipated :-)
But did it suffer any damage during the trip? Did it go moldy? …..
The weather here in Tokyo is ****, making anything outdoors and flowery out of the question, but I have decided to focus on the head and eyes of my darling Budgie for my first ‘TV’ experiments.
-
An additional ¥3,000 for import duties was a pain, and unpacking took some time …. Truly epic packaging! The actual lens box is perched on the top.
Quickly mounted to Z via a custom raf camera adapter plus a pair of Borg rings. Sickness and dreadful weather have prevented me from trying it out though :(
-
It's a funny thing ... Two very different images of Saul, taken seconds apart.
The other image is a spider plant baby with an LED grow light behind it.
Quite extreme vignetting (these images are cropped), but I guess that just goes with the territory.
-
Enjoying the fun. A new way to see gin and tonic ;-)
-
Imbibe enough of that stuff and any lens might give the same result :)
-
Getting something sharp is usually,,, the best however sometimes the image convey the emotions despite that ;D 8)
-
Glad to see you are having fun, Richard 8)
