Every year I take my family to Cres for about 3 weeks. I practically grew up here. When I was small ages ago, my grandmother took me here to her little house to enjoy the summer on the seaside. It is here that I started swimming and diving. It is here that I fell in love for the first time, had my first glass of wine, had my first kiss, had my... you get my drift...
Since my kids are growing up in Amsterdam and not in Belgrade, this is a way for them to experience a bit of my childhood.
Today is not a day for the beach, bura is blowing hard, so we had no choice but to play basketball.
These are ordinary snapshots that I usually share with my family and friends on Facebook, but I was thinking, my family and friends are also here at NikonGear, so why not bore them too :-\
I'll try to make some more interesting photos to show off, I promise ::)
-
Nice, are you practicing for our next match in the Montenegrin mountains?

I love the B&W/sepia image in a lot of ways. (Watch your horizons in the color photos.)

I love the B&W/sepia image in a lot of ways.
Thanks Gary, that was such a surreal experience I simply had to capture it.
We stumbled on this amazing spot while driving around in the mountains of Montenegro last year during our annual photo trip, while fooling around with our cameras a boy with a basketball appeared from the only mountain hut in the area looking for some playmates to shoot hoops with, so cool.

+1

Jakov-your's second shot disappear...
Now is OK...
-
Now that we are on the topic of basketball in Montenegro, I couldn't resist but post one of my favorites :)
-
As I said, I have been coming to Cres ever since I was born.
However, this is the first time I brought along my Sachtler tripod that I tried out last night.
Note, the first one was not made using a tripod but my slipper :)
Hope you like them.

More Good Stuff Jan Anne.

More Good Stuff Jan Anne.
Thank you but I think the credits should go to Jakov as he made the images ;)

You peoples all look the same to me ...
and More Good Stuff Jakov Minic.
-
Jan Anne and I have many common interests so no wonder we look alike to many.
The main similarity is the fondness for trinitron TVs :)
Today I mounted my beloved Heligon Rodenstock 100/1.6 on the panda. I purposely didn't do it for some time, afraid of becoming overly addicted to it :)
It goes without saying how much I like this combination, and how much fun I have shooting and processing the images!
-
well I like those in focus shots ;D ;D ;D
-
While i like most of you images, the 2nd one in this last set is outstanding. I like it very, very much!
I also think you're starting to show some Bjørn-esque style, especially the last one.
Great stuff.
-
thanks, Elsa :D
don't you know by now that i cannot focus properly :'(
-
well either that or you are smoking something - and you should share ;D
-
thanks Hans!
whenever somebody recognises Bjørn in my images my heart starts pumping with joy :)
to me, it means that i am doing something right 8)
others might state that i am a copy-cat and that i don't have a style of my own, but let's not focus on such thoughts, since i cannot focus anyhow :D
-
elsa, the best ganja i ever tasted was in south africa and swaziland!
hopefully we'll get a chance to share a puff or two in the future!
and then i'll let you use the heligon ;)
-
Heligon or smoking is enough, both together is too much for one poor soul
the diamond stars looking plant is outstanding
-
Sorry to be so indifferent but I like them all. Esp. mention goes to the bug on the flower and the bw basketball
scene in the middle of nowhere.
-
fortunately Jakov - we are allowed to be totally creative and everything goes on NG. Which means I am exposed to stuff I wouldn't normally seek out. That is good for me.
Dope is still illegal in SA.. ;) ;)

That's something I recognize ;) Great shots.

But it's good for you ;D
And I do not disagree.
bring that out of focus camera and come to SA again
-
Last night whilst waiting for my kids to return from an open air theatre I didn't know what else to do but to photograph the open sky from my enormous porch. As you can see at 28mm I can see a lot of the sky :)
-
That's something I recognize ;) Great shots.
Thanks, John!
-
The Nikon AW1 is loads of fun!
Selfys underwater can be difficult at times, but I like that my daughter and I are chopped off in this one :)
-
I love those star trails. I've never done them ... but I love what others can do.
-
Thanks gary, I am certain you can create them with ease. Just point your camera into the sky and set the shutter to about 10 minutes ;)
Here is another focussed and colorful image of mine, I know Elsa likes those :)
-
That is absolutely beautiful. How much post manipulation was necessary to create such an image? Being an old photojournalist ... I've been trained to document and accuracy ... at times it is hard to see outside that box.
-
Thanks Gary!
When I started off with digital photography I was of the same opinion, that you shouldn't do any post processing, but over the years it seems that it's a part of the process, just like the dark room where you processed your images. The only difference is that the possibilities are greater nowadays.
It didn't take that much, apart from being incredibly stubborn, I am not the most patient type either :)
-
since the theme of this summer holiday is basketball, here is a sunset.
-
I simply adore the flowers. Never mind getting addicted to the Heligon! ;)

thank you Zuzić, never minded my addictions ;)

a back flip gone almost right :)
-
Cool flipped image Jakovic, really like it.
-
Fond memories of travels and lenses also superb images Jakov...
-
Many thanks Jan Anne and Erik.
I am glad you like them :)
-
i promised i would use my circular fish-eye and make a planet.
two in one :)
this is the main tower bell that wakes me up every morning at 6:30.
not only is it powerful but it's about 100m from my window...
-
A great set of images
really like the very first one ....
the bug on the flower
the sunset basket
Keep on having fun
-
Thanks Armando!
More fun to come :)
The basketball themes continues to dominate my summer vacation.
The previous basketball sunset was created using my longest lens 300/4.5, but last night I wanted to use the shortest 8/3.5 circular fish-eye.
That of course wasn't enough, so I made a night shot afterwards.
We enjoyed some night swimming under the starry skies... accompanied with beer and pizza, but most importantly with family and friends!
-
Heligon or smoking is enough, both together is too much for one poor soul

Thomas I haven't used the Heligon stoned just yet. Something tells me it might work :)
Thanks!
-
Sorry to be so indifferent but I like them all. Esp. mention goes to the bug on the flower and the bw basketball
scene in the middle of nowhere.
Frank, I am glad you like them all.
The middle of nowhere is north-west Montenegro, and my fellow passengers were a bit worried that we got lost and that I didn't know the road :)
-
Love your planet. The better thing is with the circular fisheye - its not as stretched out as with my planets. Wish I had that lens in my bag
-
Elsa, I am sorry Nikon doesn't have a new version of the circular fish-eye, but I am very satisfied with the 8mm Sigma, and it's not very expensive.
Thanks!
-
This time around I used the most modern and latest micro nikkor - 60mm AF-S F/2.8.
And guess what, I simply cannot get a sharp image...
Joking aside, it's a wonderful lens!
-
jakov - it goes for about $1000 here. thats not cheap
and do you have any lenses that take in focus photos? :P :P :P :P
-
Elsa, all my lenses are very sharp, it's just that I don't know how to use them properly :'(
The 60/2.8 micro nikkor is one the sharpest out there...
-
This last one is awesome - out of focus or not ;)
love the colours and composition. Perhaps you can teach me :)
-

Elsa, let me get this straight, you want to learn how to make out of focus images? ::)
-
Easy done with an AF lens. Push AF-ON so image appears sharp in finder, then twist focus ring on lens so the image goes just off focus again. Stop at the point where the effect is pleasant to the eye.
With a manual-focus lens or a lens without any focusing assistance, move back and forth until satisfied.
-
Thanks Jakov - Bjørn already helped me out :)
I can do that...
-
That last image has started my morning out right. I'll be thinking about it all day and wishing I had taken it. I'm off for a second cup of coffee ... then I'll come back and again and continue looking at that image.
-
Gary, you made my day with your comment!
Here is another one, perhaps not as nice...
(I guess I should take a break from flowers)
-
I must admit that I am really impressed with the AF-S 60 mm f/2.8 micro nikkor.
It is becoming my favorite walk around lens. I am not saying that I am abandoning my beloved 85/1.4 but the 60/2.8 is more versatile thanks to the micro capabilities. It's super sharp, great bokeh, light-weight, and just does what you want it to do. It's a real bargain too. Cheaper than any lens that I might wish to possess.
So here are some acidly colorful ones (no i am not stoned, yet) and an early evening image from the light-weight and versatile 60/2.8.
-
Impressive and nice colors.
What are the green-red curles in the sky?
-
Thanks John!
A drone of some sort, simply had to capture it.
-
Looking forward to next workshop!
Jakov these are super nice! And yes the Micro Nikkor 60mm AFS is a universal lens and you master it well! Love the light in thes images...
It is so nice to be able to get closer!
The old 55mm Micro Nikkor was back then a very similar tool... ;)
180mm would have made the drone more dominant in the image, I would like that.. Hint hint..
-
And they just keep on coming ... damn, these are impressive. Well done.
-
You're really in the flow now amigo, really awesome pics.

The 180mm ordered, need to be chipped... hint... hint :)
Yes it is so nice to be able to get closer. I was skeptical of the out of focus areas, but any longer, it's creamy and dreamy...
Thanks!

Gary, I am honored, thanks 8)

I hope the flow continues, thanks amigo!

Yesterday, I really tried to make a different picture, not including flowers, basketball, sunsets and funky colors.
I tried to make a simple family picture. The Df was accompanied with the 10.5/2.8 fish-eye for this purpose.
Many friends, many kids, and an evening barbecue...
-
Love the little head on the table in the bottom right corner! :) Such a cool and fun shot.
-
Nice 'family'-shot. Would B&W not be more simple ? ;)
-
just can't get my eyes of those red pants... ;)
-
thinking out of the box - love it
-

Hi John, B&W would make it more complicated for me in post processing, i am not comfortable with it at all ;)
Thanks
-

I am happy to read that you are enjoying my sexy red swim pants and hairy legs :P

We're all enjoying them ... lol. ;D
-
Fancy red swimsuit and hairy legs notwithstanding ... that is a very nice and different family photo.
-
you have all left me with little choice but to expose my sexiness even further 8)
note how i match the lighthouse :D
all the things i do for friends...
-
Close, but no cigar shows :D

Close, but no cigar shows :D
Bjørn, you had and probably will have plenty of opportunities to see the lot in the flesh ;)
For instance, you seem to have forgotten my naked self in the bath tub when empty cans were being dropped on my stubborn head by Erik, the humongous flash illuminating the scene and you behind the viewfinder ::)
-
If I should print some of these for my walls I would go for the psychodelic blooms
wow. Post500. AndreaB. I want a Banana for cultural heritage on this forum.
-
10 children and one young and beautiful wife. I envy you.
We are in Haarlem currently and still a while so.
-
Thanks Frank for your comments.
500 posts is an achievement indeed.
-
This is what happens when a sexy male in red swim pants approaches a beautiful tourist female in the sea.
(Nikon's slogan would be: never go for a swim without the AW-1)
-
This must rank with your best, Jakov. Kudos to both parties. Plus the AW1 of course - very versatile and enticing camera ....
The red-painted nail is perfectly positioned of course. And her entire action brings a new meaning to "underwater flash".
-
I need a pair of those red trunks. 8)

Thanks Bjørn, I am really honored by your comments. Your photo critiques mean a lot to me as you know!

Gary, it's all about the humble approach 8)
-
Although I am not really someone who makes B&W photos (don't know how to), I put the extra effort in and desaturated this one :)
Why B&W:
I like the reflection that appears on the subsurface, and the photo seems more elegant and sophisticated.
-
... a new meaning to "underwater flash".
;D ;D ;D
-
Nice 'flashes' indeed :D The B&W is rather subtle, even mysterious. The watersurface gives the éxtra dimension to it in combination with the .. 'rest' ;)
-
Thank you for your nice comments, John!
-
yup, the image with the reflection is much nicer
on the color image, you can place the gray point on the right part of her top (left on the image) , that will make the skin look warmer, probably more normal looking
if you want to continue experimenting a black & white conversion with a red filter will make the water close to black, contrast will probably have to be lowered so it doesn't look to extreme
-
Thanks Armando for your comments!
The red filter is what I use for IR, so yes, it could be good to mount one on the AW1. I am just not sure how long they will last in salty waters, and whether the image quality would be decreased?
-
Don't use ordinary filters under water. They will be damaged. Besides, you expressly should not use a red filter under water as it will severely impact image quality.
-
Here is an image of my eleven year old son Luka reading something appropriate for his age: Dostoevsky - Crime And Punishment
-
I am not a fan of circular fisheyes ... but I like this image. So Jakov, I am curious, of those ten kids ... how many are yours? (You can PM me ;) )
-
Two, that I know ;)
-
Anyone spotting red swimwear? ;)
-
Two, that I know ;)
Or that you willing to admit?
-
Here is my 13 year old daughter Kaja, Gary.
And yes, I admit I have two kids, and only two ;)
-
I have two also.
-
the photo of Luka is cool - the book being quite surreal.

I am sure you took some photos of them, Gary?
-
I am not in Cres any longer, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't post images that were taken there :)
The time I spent here with my family and friends was pure joy and happiness. I will cherish the memories forever.
I did take my IR camera and I did take some photos, only to realise that I had forgotten my card reader at home in The Hague when I wanted to transfer them on my macbook.
And since the D200 has a compact flash card, unlike the Df and AW1, I wasn't able to process these earlier.
What is important to note, and what I suggest to everybody out there, is, do what you like the most when in grief and don't hold back!
I find the process of creating photos the best way to deal with and ease pain (and of course reading threads and viewing photos on our lovely NG community).
The photo is called, The Narrow Streets of Cres.
-
I have two also.
I am sure you took some photos of them, Gary?
ahhh ... yeah. :)

Gary, you have beautiful daughters!
Here is another of my daughter Kaja :)
-
Cres, Šumice, this is where I spent a lot of time. In a nice restaurant, in the shade, lovely people, next to the beach....
-
The tiny island of Cres had a very strong antifascist movement during World War II.
This monument is proudly standing high in the main street. You simply cannot miss it once entering the city centre by car.
-
I love the latest photo of your daughter Jakov (posted 00:20:48)
Great angles & wonderful textures on the stone make a wonderful setting for her
-
Thanks Colin!
Cres is all in stone that provide a really nice atmosphere for photography.
Of course I was on the beach for most of the time, but every now and then I would take an image or two.
-
Kaja really has the looks and posture, nicely captured!
All the best from sunny Copenhagen to all of you :*

YES, lol!!!!

Thank you Erik and Gary.
I am such a proud father!!!
-
I was thinking of merging all my Cres photos into an already existing one...
Here is an image of the Cres Marina, and some photogenoc plants.
-
The photogenic plant is Common Reed Phragmites australis.
