Title: What Nikkor do you want this christmas?
Post by: richardHaw on October 17, 2016, 16:15:39
1: it has to be within your budget and realistic, so no 6mm f/2.8 Ai-S fisheyes or prototype lenses!
2: something that Nikon has produced, no imaginary lenses.
3: has to be a Nikkor, no off-brands.

I'll start!

35mm f/1.4 Ai-S :o :o :o

Richard, you have limited my XMAS shopping in such a way that I simply can't say...

1. Whatever is within my budget I already have, 10.5, 16, 17-35, 20, 24, 28, 40, 45, 50, 85, 105, 135, 180, 200, and 300mm;
2. Nikon should produce a 400mm PF and I will be the first to buy it;
3. I don't mind off-brands at all as long as they have a Nikon mount, like the Coastal Optics.

Yours, Jakov

Well you kind of killed it when you said "within budget"  ;D ;D
(no lens in SA is within budget these days)

new 600

My list is humble: an AF-"P" version of 50/1.8G (or E), or Nikkor 2.4mm/f2.8 (yes, KeyMission 170!).

I'll hope that a generous close relative will read this: Nikkor PC-E 45 or 85mm (or both of course). Since I bought the 24mm, I find it hard to shoot with anything else, however 24mm is not exactly the focal for all situations.

I don't respect all the rules set by the TS, but this is something Nikon can produce:
12mm f/2.0 for DX !

OK, since the floodgates of fantasy have been opened, I will acquire a [non-existant] 16-35/2.8 E, which will serve for 70% of everything I want to shoot.
If the fantasy is shut down, I would like another 14-24/2.8.

I enlist with you on the 16-35 Keith  ;)

And a 200/2 with the size of the 200/4 would be very nice as well, however it is against the law of the physics...

Based on what is currently on the market I will settle for a 20/1.8

Repro-Nikkor 85mm f/1

If I can ever ever ever find a copy that is! And not for $4000 sold by snobby collectors :P
Realistically, they should be priced at around $1500-$2000.

The Repro-Nikkor isn't going to happen, so realistically, an 85mm f/2.8 PC-E. Found a seller already, just have to go get the thing next year when I visit relatives.

In that case, Mongo will have to try and get himself either a 800mm f5.6 FL or a 200mm f2 but of course, he can justify neither of them !

I might buy myself another copy of the AF-D 28-70/3.5-4.5 to use with my D600, as a compact standard zoom with good optical quality, not too slow aperture and decent manual handling. This is class of lens that is sadly missing in the current FX lineup. I mostly use manual primes, but sometimes my wife and daughter like to use my D600 and have an automatic zoom for it... :)

Dear Santa,
I've been good, or reasonably so.

I would like a Nikon 300 f4E vr or a 105 1.4E for Christmas.  Whichever you have to hand.  Either connected to a Nikon D500 would be perfect .  Oh, and I also want World Peace  ;)

No Chimney  so will leave front veranda door open with beer and sausages waiting inside.
Love,
Tommie

I want a hydroelectric plant for Christmas, but no one gives a dam anymore.

Real life Nikkors -- 85mm f/1.4G, 200-500mm f/5.6  (Modest perhaps, but unlike a 200-400mm or 105mm UV-Nikkor  I'd use these).
Rumored Nikkors -- 16-35mm f/2.8

Last Christmas (or actually birthday and Christmas together) I got the 200-500 5.6, and this Christmas I'm going to be a little more modest, I think.  My main hope is that the repairman reports success on the 85/2.8 that I dropped recently, apparently breaking a focus roller!  OUCH!  At least it was in its case, so not all gouged up, but it's not happy.  I will settle for that, but if something like a 16-85 should fall into view I would not mind a bit replacing my wearing-out 18-55.

Roland,

That's a stocking stuffer! You must choose something more exotic than that.

Dave

Due to the heavy restrictions associated with today's Christmas wish lists I'm still weighing my options. :)

I just bought my "wish list" lens for my birthday last week, a 200/2. So an 85 or 35 prime, I have to research which focuses faster between the 1.4 and 1.8 versions.

So true... I'm also thinking about the 200f2 MkII...

Somewhere I read a signature that I can never forget, and, sure, it can explains why Santa is so miserable about photo gear...

No Nikon Christmas gifts (or buys) for me this year.
Got in August the 105E and a few weeks ago a mint 15/3.5 AI-S

But next year..... :D

I agree it is a modest request, more likely to be fulfilled!  :)
I'd be very happy with a Noct, but that fails for budgetary reasons  :(
The new old-style CV 58/1.4 would be nice too, but it's not a Nikkor  :-\
I sometimes consider an AFS 300/4, but I rarely use lenses even this big  ???
Maybe one of the f/1.8 primes, just to see how they perform compared to my old glass, AF would be nice sometimes! :o
I'd really love a modern 75-150/3.5 with updated coatings and glass, but it doesn't exist!  :-\

I'm violating at least one rule but I've decided: I want the newly announced AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR.

Dave who has another Holy Grail to quest.

I would also like a 1963 Type E Jaguar. (XKE)

I would love for a Midnight Ramble a AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G, AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G and AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED. Santa won't be bringing me anything anyway.

I've already asked for a AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR which I will not receive. I'll stick to the 70-200/2.8E.

A Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 would do well on my X-T1, I am sure. The EVF is such a pleasure to use with manual focus lenses. But for the price I'd better get the Fuji 56mm.
