I like urban landscapes, so please share yours here. Loosely defined.
-
Almost all my city shots are in my home town Portland, OR. I hope to see some other cities out there :)
-
The biggest challenge for me is location. Hard to get good roof access on some of those tall buildings.

New Belgrade.
-
My home town Oslo, capital of Norway, is intimately linked to the seascape of the Oslo Fjord. One cannot envision the one without the other.
The view of the city from the fjord also provides the appropriate setting against the surrounding hills and the profile of the Holmenkollen Olympic Ski Jump.

This is the second largest city in Norway and its citizens regard it as so special they claim "they don't come from Norway, they come from Bergen". At least their language and peculiar grammar support this notion.

Bjørn, the placement of the entertaining boats is nice. Did you take the image with D2X when we had the meet-up?
-
Yes, the D2X and 28/2. Actually captured from my hotel room an evening when I had nothing else to do.
-
A street scene in Sendai, Japan (same trip as the Tokyo visit).
-
Bjørn, thanks for the detail. Yes, the 28/2.0...that was the first time I had ever seen a "chipped" Nikkor!

Fons been there a few times!

The City Hall of Oslo with its twin towers is easily recognisable in this overview of Oslo Harbour. The 16th Century Akershus Fortress and its ramparts to the right. Smaller vessels, amongst them a police speedboat for patrolling the Oslo Fjord are anchored in the foreground. It is custom to have any visiting military ship anchored underneath the walls of the Fortress.
-
Older part of Roskilde city with the cathedral.
-
Great shots everyone, very nice to see all these different urban scenes. This is from a brief stop-over in NYC, I would love to go back and spend some time there.

Tilburg from Westpoint tower looking to the centre of the city in the east. It's good visible Tilburg is surrounded by 11 different nature-resorts. There is a view on 'Moerenburg' and further away 'Oisterwijkse vennen en bossen'.

Along the southern coast of Norway there are many small quaint towns as pearl beads on a string. They rose to importance during the tall ship period starting around 16th all the way up to end of the 19th century. Large amounts of native resources such as timber, metals, and fish, were exported to European ports and beyond. In modern times these towns declined into insignificance and their populations diminished rapidly. However, in particular in the years following WW 2, many face a revival during the summers as venues for tourism and pleasure crafts. The old woodwork buildings were restored from decay and again painted fresh in the original white. We call them the "White Towns". Wood buildings rarely are older than from the 16th century mainly due to the many fires occurring over the years. It has become custom now to rebuild houses in a replica style so as to preserve the overall atmosphere once prevailing in these maritime-influenced ports.
The photo shows the inner harbour and fashionable quarters of Risør, one of the most typical of these "White Towns". The row of buildings along the quay in the background is collectively known as Solsiden ('The Sunny Side') and once were residences and warehouses for the old trading companies.

Bergen by night.
This is the second largest city in Norway and its citizens regard it as so special they claim "they don't come from Norway, they come from Bergen". At least their language and peculiar grammar support this notion.
The structure of all the buildings (especially the high rise ones) look so similar. Is that a tradition or regulation?
The glass wall of the viewing area makes me nervous. :) Beautiful view and a beautiful photo.
-
Combination of traditional architecture and building material I'd guess.
The vertical drop at this vantage point is not extreme, just a few hundred metres. You arrive there by funicular.

Very compelling image Bjørn. Was this in Oslo? Similar effects are happening in Bangalore (and other places in India) as well.
Massive cloud-burst couple months back - many cars went under water in low areas of Bangalore. And, India's car insurance rules are weird. When water goes away, if you start the engine "without presence of insurance company representative" insurance won't cover for any damage!! We are not suppose to move the car from scene at all.

Great shot Akira. The 20/4 is a very nice lens, without protection filter ;)
Thanks, John! I immediately fell in love with this lens. So far as this particular image is concerned, the filter rounded out the frame, and I deliberately processed the raw file a bit too far in order to enhance the ghost caused by the smudge. :)
-
I completely understand how you feel ;) (Last year I sold my (bad) sample, but a few weeks ago I was able to purchase a mint boxed one. I am positively surprised how well it performs on the Df and the D800E.)

-
Tom, that's an impressive view! I wonder how a long exposure night shot would look like :)
(Is that dust on your sensor or the window of your hotel room)
-
Jakov, being my D700 and a not very good period in my life , probably some of both but heavy odds on the sensor :( . I have spent more time cleaning the sensors of the D700 and D3S than all of my other cameras combined.
This was taken at the same time at 70mm which begs the question ... did I spend more time cleaning up the image or get a cleaner part of the window ;) . This was taken from the 19th Floor.
I often thought about taking a tripod on one of my bi-weekly medical trips but normally travelled with hand carry only. For night shots you would need to hope for no pollution or , being you, turn the pollution into a plus for more unusual images :)
Cheers,

I must say I did not enjoy 24-120. It is quite heavy for a walk-around lens.
Same spot with 28 f2 ais and 55 f3.5 P ai converted. While there were cyclists and jogger on the bridge; down right below there were teenagers smoking weed.
55 f3.5 P:

Pretty impressive Anirban. The 28/2 gives nice stars, and somehow looks a bit warmer too.
-
Thank you John. :) 55 has 6 blades vs 7 blades in 28. That's why I believe 28 results in better stars.

No harm done. I dont think you have overdone it but the sky has to come down a notch or two to be pleasing. Maybe you took the picture when the sky was too bright or too early in the evening to get the long exposure effect?
The first set of pictures with the bridge is wonderful :)
-
Anirban, the third night shot of the bridge is lovely as well as the tipsy one :)
Haven't you seen me among the teenagers ;)

Thank you Børge. You are absolutely right. Sky was much brighter at that time and I still wanted the long exposure effect. :)
Bridge shots, I'm not entirely happy with the framing. Someday I will go back and try again. Thanks again.

Thank you Jakov. Next time I will keep an eye. :P

"Someday I will go back and try again." My book is full of this sentence. Lots of places were I know there is a picture hidden, but I haven't unleashed the full potential yet. Its a great feeling when you finally get it right :)

More urban Minneapolis. I've a long way to go - to learn how to make good pictures "with distortion" and without correcting them. Such as these ones from 18-35mm.

Cloudy morning with thunderstorm, from hotel window.
Df, 105/2.5 AI.

A very dark cloudy morning. Looks like winter, I like the foggy atmosphere.
-
Thanks John! :)
-
Anirban, looking at your sunset reflection of Mineapolis it seems to me you have mastered the 18-35 ;)
-
Thanks Jakov. 18-35 is a lightweight plasticky lens. But I like the lens :)

Love the inspiring thread. Here is a shot "golden towers " I took in 2013 with Fuji X-E1 and XF 35mm f/1.4:

Really like this one. I love the contrast between the lit buildings and the foreground. Nicely done.

haven't had too many chances to go and shoot for shooting's sake lately...
it's been interesting watching the progress of this new tower downtown from our bedroom window. for reference, the subject is 2.55km away and 326m high.

notice the two construction workers standing at the top :o
D500, 200-500 with 1.4x, shot at 390mm (equivalent field of view to 825mm)
iso 800, 1/5000 sec, f/8, handheld.
here it is more recently, peeking through morning fog.

with a bit older neighbors in the foreground

and a bit wider context. the alignment of the older apartment building smack in front of it from this vantage point is unfortunate!
-
Good series, Mark! I think you got a good copy of the 200-500.

Daniel and Akira's dusk shots inspired me to share this one from Main St., Santa Monica(Fuji XE-1 + 14mm):
