I brought the 55-200 zoom on the x-t3, took a series of wideish images as the comet is hard to see in the unprocessed images, this one was at 82mm
The image is a bit blurry, conditions were a bit windy and the head of the tripod was loose and since it was still dark I couldn't quite figure out what was going on

Well done - as other I envy you your low latitude position. Around here it would appear only 1/2 h before sunrise now according to Stellarium when it is already too much daylight. However I have hopes for mid-October when it will move further north away from the sun and have become an evening comet.
BTW, the aurora forecasts for this weekend (up to kp7) may indicate activity also at latitudes not normally experiencing it.

Not. It means a fixed connection between the pedal axis and the back wheel. If you push backward you drive backward:

I rode single speed bikes for years. They mostly came with civilised free wheeling hubs, but yes, some were uncivilised and only came with fixed hubs so that the pedals kept turning on the down hill segments of the journey! Quite exciting to say the least. And quite challenging if one lifts the feet off the pedals - so very hard to hold them clear of the pedals for long!
Hard to see the rear hub on the bike in question - obscured by the rider's left leg.
I'm going to take a chance that Frank didnt mean what Fons and Alaun thought....

...BTW, the aurora forecasts for this weekend (up to kp7) may indicate activity also at latitudes not normally experiencing it.
After a delay, the forecast finally came though! At first I did not see anything special when I aimed straight overhead, but when I went around the corned of my cabin facing north towards the neighbor cabin, my eye picked up some slightly red areas in an otherwise not too interesting looking sky, which could have gone undetected if I had not already spied on the local aurora cameras on the net. So I was prepared when my Z8 picked up the most intense red aurora that I have ever seen at these latitudes! Again, the lesson is that our eyes are very poor at picking up the reds in the dark, while the Z8 at ISO 3200 only needed 4 sec exposure at f/4 with my 14-30mm lens. Keep a watch out (with your camera, as the eye might not pick it up...) for tonight and perhaps the coming days as this activity was part of a triple coronal mass ejection, https://www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=08&month=10&year=2024 (https://www.spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=08&month=10&year=2024) (More images in the night sky thread...)

Thanks for the comment Birna - yes I know how frustrating that can be, at the time of writing the Poker Flat sky cam, which is located slightly further north, shows some beautiful coronas, but it is more than 50% cloud cover here so I just get to capture some fragments of it poking out between the clouds. No complaints though after last nights captures. For your enjoyment, here is the link to the Poker Flat all sky cam: https://allsky.gi.alaska.edu/ (https://allsky.gi.alaska.edu/).

Mine is just a factual statement. AI manipulation changes our perception. I do not know if you care.

There is no more room in our freezer storage for all the fungi collected this autumn. Thus, they now go into a dehydrator and end up as ground mushroom powder, or pickled mushrooms, or whatever apporoach Ruth fancies. She still don't venture more than a couple of hundred meters away from our dwelling. There is literally no end to this.

Thanks for commenting Colin. I brought the 4s exposure down a bit, did some slight local contrast enhancements on the aurora and brightened the stop sign, but the scene is very close to what displayed on the back of the camera with daylight WB. Considering the very bright LEDs of the street lights, it was quite surprising how well the aurora competed with the lighted foreground (unedited cropped thumbnail below).

In England, a bodge is a poorly made repair. It can be temporary but is not necessarily so. A bodger is one who often makes permanent, poor repairs.
Except it was not always so. Once upon a time, a bodger was a skilled craftsman who made the turned legs of stools and suchlike. Nobody knows the origin of the name. This gentleman (the aptly names Peter Wood) is a volunteer who demonstrates these old-school skills. All of his tools are manual.

Yesterday was our first full day in America. We went to visit a very foggy Golden Gate with an impressive demonstration of current and historic fighter planes. This one turned around its own axis, then did a half looping and this dive, wich I found particularly impressive. Later it flew formation with a WW II propeller machine. I did not know these modern planes can go so slow...

(I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one...... ;D)
Of course you need one. As far as I am concerned, 40mm always felt natural - in fact, 20, 40, and 58mm (quasi 60) all do, more than the usual 28 (or 35), 50, 85.
One reason I did not buy that one is, the Z40/2 is sweet (so is the Voigtländer 40/2 and its close-up complement).
The other reason is, when I went to buy it, it was out of stock while the 50/1.0 was there and is darn good, even wide open. After testing it for 1/2h I could not part with it.
I may get back and add the 40/1.2 to my inventory, but there is some redundancy - the 50/1.0 is equally a well-built MF lens, just a bit longer and bigger. Another redundancy is with the 50/1.2 Nikkors, dreamy wide open, very sharp from 2.0, while the 50/1.0 is more consistent with its high contrast through the whole range, remindful of the Noct Nikkor.
But coming back to your case: if you have no 40mm, resistance is futile. Surrender while stocks last!
-

(I don't need one, I don't need one, I don't need one...... ;D)
Many thanks Tim and Ian,
I concur with Airy that 40mm feels natural. And this particular 40mm just feels right on the Zf with its aperture ring and it produces vintage like photos wide open but can be very sharp closed down. I also own the Z 40mm f/2.0 but never use it.
I really like the Neo Noct 58mm f/1.4 but with the FTZ II it makes for a front heavy experience. Still that's about the only F mount lens I'm going to keep.
I wouldn't like to swap the Z 35mm f/1.8 for the Voigt 40mm f/1.2 as it is very good and serves me well for fast paced event coverage.
But for a trip and when you have a bit of time the Voigtländer is a lot of fun to use. Zf with Voigt 40mm and Voigt 15mm makes for a very compact full frame travel kit.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your thoughts and encouragement. It is good to know that it complements the 35mm f/1.8S rather than competes with it. 35mm feels natural to me and so 40mm is bound to please too. As a bonus it would be, effectively, a spare lens at my favourite angle of view.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have completely overtaken the Norwegian car sales. Now >90% of sold cars are electric. You recognise them easily by the license plates which always start with the letter 'E'. Just in case anyone wonders, hybrid cars are not considered EVs.
So, the future seems bright and even green (?).

Although I'm not very active here, I wanted to share a Halloween photo that wasn't really a Halloween photo. Shot it yesterday with my new Z5 with the Zeiss 25/2.8 ZM Biogon lens. Don't ask me what's going on with this lady but her expression is Halloween appropriate.
