This is the K version, with a very low serial no. (174067). According to Roland's Nikon pages, 56 units were made of these impressive zooms in the K livery. With AI and AIS models, the total still is well below 200 samples. Thus qualifies as a Nikkor rarity presumably.
It has had its foot extensively modified to allow mounting it securely on a robust tripod. The original design was severely flawed and inadequate for such a massive lens (it weighs more than 9 kg). I also added a "G"-type CPU. The lens was sold as "junk" by a Japanese dealer many years ago, because it had been stored under damp conditions and had lots of fungus inside. One could not look through the lens -- it was totally opaque. Otherwise it was practically unused. Turned out the fungus was only on a single glass surface and easily removed. Thus the purchase was a bargain for approx. 500 USD incl. shipping.
No C-19 indicators seen -- so far. But I'll keep looking.
