Hummingbird on wire
« on: January 26, 2020, 01:41:08 »
Saw this Hummingbird sitting on my laundry line, it was a cloudy day, so I had to boost the iso.

Nikon D700, Nikon AF 180mm f/2.8, ISO 3200, 1/800's.
Nikon D700, D300s, D7200, D40, Fuji X100, and a bag of old lenses.

Nice image.  The composition with the line and the colors all add up very well!

Neat image indeed.  And somewhat unique as well.

Frequently Humming Bird images show sharp backgrounds and the wings of the in-flight bird with out of focus detail.  This one is a rare reversal - a sharp motionless bird on a blurred clothes line!  All good as they say.  :)

Mike, this is a unique image and very good.  I am cursed with three sets of power cables running behind my house and lazy birds prefer to hunt from the cables to hunting from the the trees.  How did you manage the clothes wire effect?  If you care to share.  Maybe I am just dense  :D .   Love it.  Even shooting at f2.8 the cable is always detailed right where the bird is gripping it.

He is simply close.  You can get this effect with a focal length as short as 85mm if close enough at 1.8, good for dramatic shots of stringed instruments.

Thank you for the compliment on the picture!  :) As 'Tristin' said, I tried to get as close as possible to the bird. I found that Hummingbirds will get comfortable with you getting close, if they see you every day and you make no sudden moves. :D
