Nasos - you should definitely pull that out. Great lens. I shall use that one again soon as well.  :-)

the Z 105mm Macro S

Michael,

What are your impressions: is the new Macro 105mm 2.8 S as good as expected? Expectations are very high as, so far, the S series Nikkors seem to be uniform superb. Just curious...Thanks, Robert

Better than expected, up there with the best of fine lenses. I use it all the time and the automatic focus allows me to focus stack with the lens and the Z7 II. Here is an example of that lens.

Thanks for the confirmation...as evidenced by your close up photo of the flowering Day Lilly - hope I have it right.  A couple of reviews on the web provide similar assessments.

Thanks again...Robert

I still love my old Nikkor 105mm f2.5 AiS. This is on an FM2n with Fujichrome 200.

Nice place, you%u2019ve there. I%u2019d like to pass this gate for a walk %u2026

It's "Bramslev bakker" at Mariager Fjord, Denmark. And indeed a very lovely place to walk.
Should You ever pass by, there's a lovely 4 to 10 km walk behind that gate...
I'd love to show You more pictures. But the weather, and my dresstyle, were incomparable yesterday (dec. 15'th).
Hope to be there soon, in better weather, though... :)

This is a nice photograph. Does a 105mm lens mounted on a DX format camera (D200) constitute a 105mm? Arguably, what is meant by 105mm is 23% angle of view.

The lens is ignorant of the camera to which it is mounted. Thus it continues to have the properties of its inherent optical features.

On an 8x10" camera, 105mm is a wide-angle lens.

Birna, you should say "On an 8x10" camera, 105mm is an ultra-ultra wide angle lens !"

I don't know any 105mm that covers 8x10", only Nikon Nikkor 120 SW or equivalent older Schneider or Rodenstock lenses cover (just) 8x10"... and these lenses are already 20mm or 18mm (35mm equivalent) !

So I think a 105mm for 8x10" is a dream lens but not yet (and probably never) available in real world !

You are right and I stand corrected. Never used anything wider than 120mm on my 8x10" :) thus a slip of tongue or mix-up in the memory banks. The latter is likely as there are now many many moons since last time I used one of those behemoths. Most of the time I employed the Arca-Swiss in a 4x5" configuration. The 65mm f/4 Nikkor had trouble covering the 4x5" format if movements were used, but the 90mm Rodenstock did just fine.

However, the principle remains. The lens has inherent properties not influenced by the camera it is attached to.

Absolutely...however, I hazard to guess that most participants in the Nikon Gear forum anticipate the thread "Show your 105 images" anticipate photos obtained with 105 Nikkors which, as we appreciate, include many well-loved variants applicable predominantly to full frame and DX formats, and also to smaller formats via adopters. And indeed, most photos presented within the thread hone closely to this expectation: a portrait-length 23 degree rendering, but also well suited to macro photography (reference Michael's contribution of a few days ago), and general use.

In any case, I think this is a non-issue...Personally, I would interested to see, in this thread, images taken by near-105mm lenses such as contemporary macro lenses of other manufacturers...in particular, either of the two Zeiss 100mm F2.0s.
