Paris, Saint Séverin. The ancient organ case is elegant, but not even a match for the sheer seduction that this particular organ is capable of. It was rebuilt in 1963 when the interest in recovering that "baroque sound" was peaking, and was well served by the local organists, esp. the late Michel Chapuis, André Isoir, and Jean Boyer. Bloody hell, all my idols from my teenage years are dead. Where am I heading to?
The front pipes are quite old, and blackened by gaslighting emanations in ancient times. Organ builders then preferred to leave the pipes alone, because reverting the chemical reactions on the surface of the pipes may have ruined them.
