I set the aperture with the dial on the camera. The aperture ring is locked at 32 on the lens. Manual focus, shutter speed 250/sec. ISO 64

OK, that's probably the explanation for the deviating behaviour. All my cameras* are set up to use the aperture ring on the lens. It's a fail-safe configuration as any 'G' or 'E' lens would just fall back to the use of the camera dial so as far as these lenses are concerned, the camera works at default setting.* if the functionality exists

How do you set the camera to accept the aperture ring for adjustment of the iris? My camera would not funktion as you describe?

Custom Menu#f9: aperture setting > aperture ring

This is not the default, as we already discovered. But a godsend for anyone using lenses with an aperture ring of course. I much prefer the handling of the camera set up in this manner.

(On camera) MENU > Custom menu > (Controls) F9 > Aperture setting > Use aperture ring

No need for the manual

By the way, the option to move control from camera dial to aperture ring has been lurking under the Control section of the Custom Menu for many years of a long list of Nikon models. There is some variation in the actual item numbering in this section i.e. F4, F7, F9 etc., but always under Section F.

I found it and changed but the dim monitor persist. Nothing happens when I push the Pv button now!

Then there is another different setting in the configuration ... all I can tell is that I have no dim LiveView ... none at all ... and the Pv button changes nothing.

You do have the option of altering Monitor Brightness though. Perhaps have a look into that?

At last, after assigning the Pv button again everything is working. Puh, that was a bit tricky but with your help and patience it is now fixed. Thank you again!
