I first bought one in film days but had issues with focus on very dark FE2 screen.
I revisited it after reading the Bear's blog. I like it on digital. It renders crisply and has very little chromatic aberration. Mine is Ai.

LZ -which cameras have mechanical linkage to lenses? Perhaps that is why my Df always needs +1 to 2EV but D800E does not on ANY manual lens?
You will be LOL, but for last 4-5 years, since I dropped using any manual lenses, I've never paid any attention to this factor! My D800-810 bodies definitely have such the mechanical linkage, and, while I am using D4-5, as well as DF's, I am not able to say for sure! As well about D600-750! People, who using manual lenses, know better! THX!  LZ

All FX models past and present have aperture coupling with the mechanical lever. Same goes for most of the DX models as well.

I'm using it on a D700, which works perfectly with all my other manual focus lenses, chipped or not.

I haven't used the Zoom-Nikkor 25-50mm f/4 AIS much before, but here is a photo from January 3. this year, together with Nikon D810.
One picture taken is far better than none!

The 25-50 is among my long-time favourite lenses. Very versatile and can be used for IR too.

In my opinion, Birna, this is a great picture from you. I really love the mood and the lightning captured "in the right moment".

Less fun a few minutes later, when a bolt of lightening struck the pine tree (on the left in the frame) and split it into two parts. The tree was just 3 m away. I was literally blind and deaf for a long time and crawled on my belly back to cottage to avoid being the highest remaining object on the site... Vision regained next morning, howver the thunder had badly overloaded my auditory senses so it took two weeks afterwards before a modicum of hearing was restored.
