Fire fighter helicopter
« on: April 10, 2017, 19:43:43 »
A wild fire on the hills behind my house, I'm a couple of blocks away, but there are house that are right there between trees ... a new thing happening this year is the use of these helicopters, in previous years all the fighting was moving earth, with the help of construction equipment , and often by hand using shovels

So this was controlled in hours ... rather than days

V1 +FT1 +70-300, the choper is about 1.5 km away

Hope the damage was minimal and there was no human suffering.

The second image looks amazing nevertheless.

Thanks Akira, in the end it was a lot of smoke, since it was quickly controlled no damage to the houses that I'm aware of

Armando:

Pictures tell the story nicely.  I am curious how your combo worked because of the limitation of center auto focus point only?  I would have thought the 1st image in particular, with the chopper so far off center would have been a challenge re: focus.  Unless of course this is a crop for comp from a centered helicopter to begin with?

I have a v2, and have played with the FT1, but struggled with the center point only for my work.

Cheers

Randy

Good observation , using AF with the Ft-1 is problematic, the camera was struggling to focus on the choper even with the center focus point, so I focused using the houses at the top of the hill,  switched to manual and recomposed at will

2 pictures and full story - thats hard to achive, but you got it...great.
the 2nd one looks really dramatic, as you cannot see the real distance between fire and houses

Thank you Thomas

The houses are 2kms from where I was, the first line of trees slightly less than 1km, and the helicopter somewhere in between
