One thing over the years I have found the wider the flatter.
What I am saying the wider the lens and the smaller the aperture number gets the flatter the hood gets, it's so pulled back it becomes useless.

Earlier this month I managed to find the HK-3 for my 20mm f4. A useful accessory, and the wider focusing ring gives improved purchase. And it stays put

The HK-3 is definitely the best solution to work with the Nikkor 20mm f/4.  Great help with focussing. I just got one with a mint 20mm f/4 lens.
