« on: June 21, 2016, 21:09:05 »
Hi
After a visit to Rome and sharing in a conversation with a individual who has a long term enjoyment of photography. It was voiced to me that a high quality film development
service in Rome is not available today.
So I am seeking information to pass on, Does anybody know of a reliable service offering good quality Monochrome Film Development in Italy ?.

     Regards

Have you considered do it yourself? I had one roll of B&W film developed and printed by a camera store and was so disappointed in the results that I started developing my own film. I bought my first real camera, a Nikkormat FTn in July or August 1970 and by 1973 I had a permanent 7.5x11 foot darkroom. It became a business and ran until 1989. It's not that difficult to setup to develop B&W film. Printing or scanning your film will be more of a challenge as you'll need a good scanner and I'm not sure if they are made anymore or a full darkroom with an enlarger and space for trays. I almost forgot: about 1972 I blacked out a dorm room to develop and print B&W film.

Well something to consider if you havent found a solution as yet.

Hello David
Thank you for your reply and support. The request was on behalf of a Native Italian who lives in Rome.
The individual is a Photographer with a portfolio that has been exhibited in galleries around the world,
so I would believe he has had a very good relationship with development services that are no longer
available. He seemed keen to do more professional work if he could find a service he could trust for the
                  quality of its work.
The black art of film processing is now a very rare commodity in terms of accessing individuals from or
trained in this old well skill set.

Hello
I discovered this person whilst watching the Sky Arts Master of Photography final.
The discipline was using film and this guy was brought in as renowned specialist, who has supported a host of
recognised professionals. It took about five replays and a subtitle activation to get the name.
Hope it is of use to the person I visited in Rome, as well as anybody on NG or beyond.
