Attached images not visible when not logged in
« on: February 17, 2018, 14:19:52 »
Hi - I'm no longer able to view attached images unless I'm logging in. I have no problems viewing other images.

If by forum software design, I for one would like to keep the behavior the same. Saves us  lot of bandwidth ...

I usually only login when I occasionally want to post something - rest of the time I browse the site as a guest (from different devices) so the old setting suits me far better.

Yes. True Lars.   It also means now that guests won't be able to see images. If they want to see a photo they are now forced to make an account and log in.

Am I right in assuming this is a changed policy on NikonGear?

I intentionally logged out, it seems to apply to NG hosted images and other hosts such as Flicker.  I don't see how blocking externally hosted images saved NG bandwidth?  Also I would have thought the majority of users will be posing images hosted externally.

I have never logged out before, whenever I load the NG site in my browser I am logged in.

I basically log in "forever", and the only time I log out is when I clear the cache of the browsers occasionally.

I can log in from mobile devices without logging out on my desktop PC.  So, I don't see any need of logging out.

I never stay logged in on any SNS websites, though.

Is this still happening for anyone?
If so, I will look into it.
Thanks in advance to anyone letting me know.

(FWIW, I can see images if logged out.)

Just checked a couple threads (Best Unsharp, minimalist images, and b&w's) on my iMac and iPad all the photos were visible whether I was logged in or not. This was using both Safari and Chrome.

Checked it too in Firefox, desktop and mobile and it seems that  'the problem' solved itself  ;)

The gremlins seem to have gone.  ;D

For me it's handy if I want to show somebody a photo which is on this site, on their computer, it saves me entering my login credentials on their computer.
