The swimming race
« on: September 06, 2016, 00:44:31 »
On 27 August there was the annual race to swim the Fuschlsee (Lake Fuschl, near Salzburg).

The distance is 4.5 km, more than I would like to try.

As a mountain lake, the water was cold, and wetsuits were obligatory.

Black was not obligatory.

Sorry, I do not know who won.

These swimmers remind me of a churning school of fish as fish crowding close to shore sometimes appear to be. Well taken and a feast for the eyes.

P.S. I love Salzburg!

fascinating feature. I am with Fons. Love the shot with landscape context most

Tom, David, Fons, Frank, Jacov and Elsa, thank you for your comments.

Very 'refreshing' shots.  Special to see this kind of action in a mountain lake.

the last one explains most of the event in a very good way and still the one before is my fav,
as it leaves much more room for your imagination

Thanks, David.  Maybe you could encourage a similar event in Loch Tay?

Thanks, David.  Maybe you could encourage a similar event in Loch Tay?

I believe that Loch Tay already is, or has been, the venue for the swimming leg of the "Iron Man" competition, in which contestants have to run 50 miles, bicycle 100 and swim 25, all within a 24-hour period, and carrying a blacksmith's anvil throughout. (I exaggerate, but the physical feats required are prodigious.)

Loch Tay, like Lake Fuschi, is extremely cold - average September water temperature 10degC.
