This thread reminds me that I haven't been out chasing butterflies for a while, and also that I haven't been organizing my pictures very well recently.

I had moderate luck with a long lens, since a whole butterfly in the frame is not really a macro shot.  This one was with D3200 and 55-300 lens.  Unfortunately even at ISO400 that one gets a little noisy.  Unfortunately we also don't get a lot of variety in our butterflies, but they're nice and big and fairly easy to hit.

Gorgeous colors, Peter.

The bright iridescence on Pyronia tithonus is completely new to me. In fact, I would probably have continued to miss it if my wife did not point it to me. I've increased saturation in the first picture to make it more visible but with the right angle of light,  it is not far from what I saw in the binocular. The 2nd picture shows the jagged wing edge responsible fot this.

I've got this one thanks my old nikkor 300mm f/4.5 ED (non IF) on tripod. No possible with a shorter lens... ;)
