Still a lens worth dreaming of (at least for wide open/short shutter speed use)

A pity that there is yet another tripod mount issue which is a Nikon systematic error (They probably see it as feature)

Is there any workaround here (by a replacement foot) or does the positioning and design of the collar itself does not make this approach promising?

Given its absolute stellar optical performance, I agree. This lens should not be restricted to use by sports photographers ...

Some more bird snaps with the 800/5.6E FL VR. Pardon the touristic approach - it wasn't until this lens that I actually gave bird photography any more than casual interest. Somewhat heavy compression in these JPEGs so IQ isn't likely what it could be in a 1200x800px file.
