Almost look like a glitch in the matrix - that light pole  ;D  So many patters repeating!
Nice capture for sure ;)

On the beach order.

Beautiful structure!  Is it a shell or a piece of coral?

It's a large barnacle looking at its base and interior...that honeycomb structure must make it immensely strong. We were sharing the beach with a marine biologist at the time and I regret not taking it to him for a barnacle mini-lecture :(

Wow, I've never known such a large barnacle.  The barnacles seen in Japan should be tiny.  Thank you for sharing.

On the beach order.

Nice juxtaposition with your finger prints and nail ‘grain’.

Gosh.
As well as being large, this is beautiful Hans.

Did you take any side-on shots?
I assume it had the usual 'volcano' shape?

Gentlemen, thank you for your interest and kind words.

This barnacle came from a beach in our far North-West where the warm waters seem to make everything grow larger and nastier. This one has the usual volcano shape and razer sharp edges on the opening. At home here in the cooler South they are generally much smaller but equally sharp, some care is required when scraping them off our boats :o No side on shots I'm afraid.
