Definitely #2, because

- the foreground in #1 between camera and pier doesn't work for me, and
- because I prefer the flatter perspective of #2 that was shot much further away, and
- oh yes, the bird!

If this was basketball, the final score would be 100:0 in favor of #2.  :P

I strongly prefer #1.  It has a more compete tonal range, and tells me more about the place.

#1 reads as an invitation to explore the scene and is imaginatively more mysterious, I prefer it to #2.
