Old Nikkor Zoom 4.5 28-45mm AI´d in Old town Michelstadt
« on: October 24, 2015, 20:04:06 »
my newest lens, a near mint Zoom, first time used for half an hour after closing my shop in the afternoon
it was cloudy, with low contrast, but the results are not too bad in my eyes - other opinions welcome

Now 40+ years old, the 28-45/4.5 was a milestone design in its time. Nikon put a lot of efforts into making it possess low geometric distortion, and sharpness is pretty good too. The slow speed can be a challenge for focusing unless you have a decent finder to match, or use Liveview.

Handling is excellent once you familiarise yourself with the loose action of the focusing ring.

Apart from rendering images with a more mellow, lower contrast, and the occasional need for removing some CA, the 28-45 is useful for FX users even today. Your images corroborate that.

Unfortunately - for me- the 28-45 does make an IR hot spot. But even that can be turned into an visual advantage ....

(visible example just to show how great the 28-45 can perform)

Very nice photo's with this perhaps underestimated oldy and somehow not very attractive on the marketplace regarding the low prices for a mint copy.   I tested the 28-45 briefly in the spring. Hardly any distortion as Bjørn mentions.

These are some examples at 28mm with the D700.
