Camping with Style
« on: June 15, 2015, 16:57:52 »
Not the typical gear for camping these days.  Lots of big RV's and trucks along with some tents.  This family has a nice fully restored 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood.  He says the Shasta trailer was manufactured in 1958.   If you look closely, you can see that the trailer also has fins in the back top.  Later he was out polishing the car.

Nice car!  I wonder if it is owned by Clint Eastwood?  :D

I call this style. Comfort is certainly something else...

Thanks Akira, Frank and Elsa,

Those cars are simply amazing.  I am always amazed by how much these cars would change year over year.  Although Caddy's are recognizable as a brand, there is a big difference between the 57, 58 and 59 model years.  Just look at all the chrome.  Must be 100 kg of the stuff.  I had the take photos.  Hand assembled with loving care in Detroit.

The trailer was also restored.  Even the canvas awning is pink.

I guess the beast drinks 30 Liters of gasoline per 100 km?

Frank,

Fuel economy was certainly NOT the hallmark of this car.  Most likely it has a big old GM 425 Cubic inch displacement V8 engine(6.96 liter)!  Turn on the air conditioner and you would be hard pressed to ever pass a filing station.  Also, with the suspension of this auto, the thing would really be unstable.  What a beast!  Any uni body modern construction auto would come out the worse if it were to collide with this guy.

Well, both are pink so who cares about mileage  :)

Interesting as evidence of the fact that despite the feeling of the opposite, even cars progress towards a better design.

I imagine the folks who own this impressive combo are living their dream, I reckon they are also having
lots of fun along the way.
Thanks for sharing the images which capture the scene perfectly.
Back in the day values were different, when we all look at how things have panned out I wonder if progress(supposed) is
all it's cracked up to be!  :) ;)

Thanks for the comments.  I must admit Tony, that I thought of you when I posted these images, knowing that you have a soft part in your heart for vintage cars.  This guy just loves this car.  He has another Caddy and is really into this.  Everybody in the camp ground was also interested.

Clint's movie helped enshrine this classic auto.  The 59 was the peak of tail fins.  If you look at models from 54-59, the tail fins just kept on growing.  I think that it is also the peak of decorative chrome.   Then to paint it pink and add a trailer with the same color, is special.

Thanks,

Lowell

I hate Pink but this is pretty cool.  I bet this guy drives very carefully.  I'd hate to be stuck behind this combo on a narrow mountain road  :(

Tom,

In this case, this guy drove 10 miles from his home to this campground.  He really likes his Pink Caddy, Pink trailer, Pink Canopy and all
