Finding details in the mundane is a never-ending task. You will never run out of subjects:)

Of course the basic question of the thread could be seen in more than one way.  As a taker of photographs of dubious merit which are mostly not seen by anyone else, the question of whether they're boring applies only to the making.

And on the other hand, if presented with something annoyingly bad enough to induce vigorous criticism and debate, it's in a sense not boring, even if it ought not to exist.

Must be the bleak midwinter or something.  The very question of what it means to be boring has the potential for becoming a recursive debate full of vigorous discourse whose outcome is almost certainly not only endless but boring.  I'd better get off my duff and either go out to the shop and make some chips or go out in the snow and click a shutter and leave the question of who cares to someone else.

In general, I don't think photographers  themselves consider what they do as 'boring' ? Why would we be so hell-bent on doing it all the time, if that perception should be the rule?

Neither should we ever be afraid to 'run out' of motifs to enjoy. In this respect, all around us is like snowflakes -- endless variations over any given theme. Take your pick.

Just photographing a non-existing subject -- winter fog. Or a self portrait. Or whatever.  Boring.

We have just gone through a big trauma in our household.  We've spent a lot of hours at the hospital over the last month because my youngest step-son had a stroke just before Christmas.  Sadly, he died last week.

I don't deal with these things well.  I tend to internalize adversity and my emotions.  To deal with these trying days, I did what I have done and what has kept me sane for most of my life--I took pictures.  Pictures of everything, the ICU waiting room, the doctors and nurses, the floor, the bathrooms, the ceiling...everything.  I've shared some of them on Flickr and another forum but without explanation.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with "straight" photography or not.  For me, they're straight from my heart and I wanted to share them.  It also helps relieve the burden somewhat.

A very good reason for just shooting "straight". My condolences.

My condolences. I don't want to start a talk about feelings as the internet is a cold place that can never show the emotions your message, both in writing and in images are expressing.
