Thank you Hugh. These were taken on the 30th March 1980 in North Fitzroy. It's not the uniforms that date these shots, it's the 1970's porn-star moustaches sported by many of the police

After photographing some of these events I developed an admiration for the professionals who could keep (manual) focus on erratically moving subject whilst walking backwards!

I never thought of the police in this light - you have stirred up my vivid imaginationt!  LOL

I wonder if the professional photographers of the day were using zone focussing and small lens apertures?

While not strictly one the street, Paco's photo reminded me of how well I've learned to wait in the last few years.  And while waiting to observe others doing the same.

I'm sure they did, especially when holding the camera above their heads. A faster film than the FP-4 that I was using would have been helpful in this regard, my hit rate was appalling!
