The ongoing march of AI

(1/1)

RobOK:
The capabilities of AI to generate text and imagery are accelerating rapidly.

* Midjourney is the most well known of the image tools, and they just released v. 5 which does photorealism much better (although you still might get 6 fingers on a hand!). ChatGPT is the popular text based one, and they just released ChatGPT 4 (which is already the basis of Microsoft Bing's tool). So now people are using ChatGPT to generate better Midjourney image prompts!! Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Asg1e_IYzR8& for that, the interesting bit is "priming" the GPT to be aware of cameras, settings, photographers within the session.
* Here is a good photographers discussion (podcast) about the role of AI in image generation and art and photography. https://streetshots.photography/2023/02/26/street-shots-ep-178-a-i-oh-my
In some ways it is an incremental step forward (Photoshop, automatic image adjustments, AI on iPhone camera, etc.) but it is also a whole new thing in creating production quality images.

Makes me reach for my Df!

Michael Erlewine:
I've been using Midjourney since it first appeared or soon after. For me it's all about illustrations and illustrating and I have stopped using stock services for illustrations and now just create my own.

RobOK:
I'm just starting with Midjourney, I had been resisting. Do you have any tips yourself or pointers to articles on writing prompts? Can you share an example of what you mean by illustrations you are generating?

Pay them $30 a month. Too difficult in the free version.

Jack Dahlgren:
I think of Ai as just another tool to be used. Just as written words and images were magic that helped us keep information persistently, and the printing press allowed us to duplicate and disseminate it, and the camera allowed us precision accuracy and speed in capturing it, and the computer allowed us to easily refine, modify and store it and the network allowed us to share it effortlessly, the expression remains human.
