Not too bad then - I see Nikon refer to it as a shanding unit (sic) - I wonder if that should be shading!

The unit
did
do its job after all. Protected the sensor and prevented damage. Too bad it was so expensive but it's sort of like the cost of replacing the bumper on a modern automobile--very costly but less than replacing other body parts.
