Z8 size and weight vs Z6/Z7
« on: July 18, 2023, 23:04:43 »
I gather the size, weight, and hand grip of the Z8 is close to a D850... sadly I have never shot with a D850!

For any with experience with the Z8, can you compare it to Z6/Z7 (or other cameras) in terms of size and weight. (Please don't say it's like a smaller Z9!).

Seems to be an incredible camera!

It is like the smaller brother to the Z9 :)

Yes thank you. And as compared to a D850:

To clarify, the point of my post was to get some HUMAN feedback on the size, weight, handling of the Z8 compared to Z6/7, so if anyone has experience to share, please do!

You did from me, The Z8 handles -- for me -- much better than the Z6/7 models. Z9 is of course bigger and heavier and hence handles accordingly. (very well, in fact, no complaints from me there).

My jury is still out regarding the Z8. I like the camera however don't need it.

The Z8 fits my hands better than the Z6 II did, the latter was a bit too small and didn't have enough physical controls, requiring frequent access to menus to change basic settings. For use with small lenses, the Z6 II was very good though. For me the Z9 would be an even better fit when working with mid and longer teles hand-held in vertical orientation but the Z8's optional vertical grip solves the problem. The Z8 without vertical grip is nicer when working with smaller lenses such as the f/1.8 primes, or for use on a gimbal stabilizer.

What I miss a little on the Z6 II is its sensor which does very well at high ISO. However, the combined EVF and shutter lag was annoying.
