Blue Morpho Butterfly

This butterfly was captured yesterday at the local butterfly  exhibit in Grand Rapids, MI.  These are quite large butterflies, who love to fly around and tease a photographer, but generally sit with their wings closed.  So always a treat when one actually keeps the wings open for a bit.

Z9. 70-180 macro, R1C1 flash, hand held.

Morpho acrhilles lima (I think).
I have a photomicrograph of its "blue" scales, perhaps I should share it.  The scales are actually opaque and appear blue because of interference, this is called structural colouration.  The scales are also hydrophobic, truly an amazing creation of nature.
