Agave abstract
« on: July 20, 2015, 23:09:37 »
I visited the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen this weekend - this shot of an Agave was a bit boring so I inverted a b/w version.

Like the high key effect - this looks like some anti personnel security device.

Great idea to invert - that works very well.
I am however missing a focus point - or something bringing it together

Does it really need a focus point?
I think it makes a nice abstract.

cheers

Richard, Elsa and Andreas - thanks for commenting!

Richard - it won't explode but it is does provide a good defence  ;)

Elsa and Andreas - I didn't consider having a focus point and the intention with the image is to show and emphasize the organic pattern with both straight and curly lines. Elsa - I'm curious to know what kind of focus point you would expect in such an image? Would that be e.g. much shallower dof and hence isolate a small section of the plant?

I encounter these plants frequently in the Southwestern US desert areas.  They are visually exiting to look at in person, but it is challenging to communicate that excitement in a photo.
Your approach has taken it out of the realm of "Oh, it's just another shot of a cactus(sic)!"

Nicely done, the eye is chasing the curves, round shapes accompanied with the swords leaves.
