My friend said he thought this is a Grackle. I don't know. Any thoughts?

This may be a grackle as well, either a female or an immature male

I think that they are brewer's blackbirds, male and female, respectively.

Thank you for your input. On another website they were identified as boat tail grackles, which may or may not be the same bird under a different name. One things for sure, I'm no ornithologist, so your guess is better than mine.

I went by the pictures in my handy spotter's guide to birds of Ontario. Checking the Audubon Field Guide on my 'phone, I am more convinced that it is something like the purple variant of the common grackle. Apparently, there is a bronze variant that looks like the picture in my book, hence my confusion.

Would a real expert please help!

I have no idea what they are, except for the fact that they are fine portraits!

Thank you, I continue to be impressed with the quality of the 300mm f/4 PF lens, even on a 20 mp DX camera. I’m going to get a D810 sometime in the fall and am looking forward to working with its higher definition images to see what I can produce.
