D850: Strange singular occurance
« on: October 17, 2018, 12:44:42 »
Yesterday I took some shots of my garden. Afterwards I wanted to check them and edit them and: they were gone, not on the card, nothing, no pixels, nada! The last shots recorded to the card I had taken 24 hours earlier and the was no sign of malfunction AT ALL. I put the same XQD back into the same camera and took more shots: Everything was fine. I put another XQD into the camera today: all fine. Well that is a reason to go back to chimping, which I usually do not do with the D500 & D850 because these seemed so reliable. Till yesterday.

Weird.  Have you tried data recovery software on the card?

two user-error possibilities:

(1) You deleted the files without thinking.

(2) You did not have the card in the camera.

No & No. I wanted to transfer just minutes after I took the pictures and I disallow shooting without card present

Not in another folder ? While you limited the playback folder to a different one ?

No other folder or file. As if not recorded. Also the numbering is continous, earlier files, then newer files. The recordings in between are as if they never happened.

Something similar just happened to some shots I took with my XT2.  I believe I must have accidentally deleted/erased everything on the card.  I downloaded a file recovery software and Viola!  The images were there.  I am now waiting for a thumb drive recovery app to arrive via Amazon so I can actually recovery the deleted/erased files.
