[PROJECT] Historically low Rhine water levels

I live in Bonn, but the Rhine river is very long and others here might live near it.

Please add your contributions from the place you live in.

A one time chance in this life I guess

Strange.  This summer, Germany has suffered from floods in various places.  But still the water level of the Rhein is getting lower and lower?

Yes, strange and not so strange :)
I believe the peaks and extremes are more prominent than before.
In other words, more water in the rainy season than usual, and less water in the dry season than usual.

Has there been any drought in Europe in recent years?

We had a very hot summer in Europe with very little rain.  The summer was so dry it was compared to 1975/1976 levels.  So very uncommon.

Looks like we had such a drought that potatoes are bitten hard ! All those who are fond of "french fires" (or Belgium ones) will find the smaller and more costly at the local food trick ! :o

Flood does not replenish the aquifer, the water just goes away. In Belgium, the level of water reserve is at a historical low. More and more cities are implementing restriction policies, like no car wash, no watering of the lawn, advice to shower instead of taking a bath, ...

Aquifiers have to be refilled and the best way to refill is planting in the zones where erosion occurs. Slow down water make it need longer for its way from rainfall to the sea.
