Picture profiles; compatible vs. latest
« on: June 01, 2017, 00:54:06 »
With Nikon Capture NX- D Nikon gives us the opportunity to choose either Camera compatible or Latest picture controls.

I liked the "Clarity" function on my D810, but with my D4s I don`t have this option, unless I choose Latest picture controls, that is.

Any experience, theory on this matter? By using Latest PC, will this give me poorer files?

With a D800 and D300s I tried the latest PC(s) and never looked back. It may look different but I don't feel there is any concern regarding poorer color or other image quality. Currently I shoot with the Neutral PC but occasionally I'll use the Flat PC to recover diffused highlights. After this I'll use LCH to add a little punch.

My guess is the latest PC(s) can't be added to cameras in a firmware upgrade without the latest Expeed image processor. I appreciate that Nikon gives the latest PC(s) in software where possible.

Thank you, Dave!

That is reassuring .

One should think Nikon would warn us if not optimal......

I'll give them a try for a while .

In my experience you have to be careful with the non compatible effects or you might posterise your photo
