NX-D load to MAC problem

Loaded NX d to my PC  and it worked but kept crashing /Freeze.   So loaded to the I Mac and it says does not have the correct application to run it ....Give me a hint please !!

Don't know 'bout the PC, but i trust you've downloaded the mac version before trying to "load" it there. PC apps don't run on macs. The mac version can be downloaded from the nikon website.

I have loaded the mac version onto the mac ..but says don't have right application to run.

And if you want us to be of any help, you should enlight us on hardware, OS version, screen captures and the like.

I've removed NX-D from my computer, but i remember that you need to run a setup/install program. It doesn't run straight away.

Did you do that (the downloaded DMG is the actual installer, not NX-D itself)?

Don't leave jobs to the wife ...spotted it was exe not dng ...not her fault the Nikon logic selecting PC or mac is a bit irish..opposite to what you would think ....thanks for the help

Some OS think it is better to "hide" the file extension. Thus the actual file might different from what is expected and none the wiser, until one is attempted to execute it.

OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan allows displaying extension and hidden, system files. None of these are displayed by default. I set my Windows 7 box and iMAC to display all.

I took a pic in RAW and Jpeg so identical ..I just wanted to work on the raw and then save as a jpeg to see if there is any difference.
I usually shoot jpeg  large basic...Suspect it wont be worth the effort ...

To the OP:
Check to make sure that you have the most current version: Capture NX-D1.4.3

Richard: the trouble was with the Transfer 2 element of ViewNX-I, this issue has been resolved in the current version: ViewNX-i 1.2.4. Btw, Transfer 2 is not integral to C NX-D but was with C NX2.


To clarify, Nikon's download site usually directs Macs and PCs to the appropriate download. I assume this is done based on a handshake with the browser, much like websites tailor the content depending on whether you are on a mobile or a laptop.

It's up to you to evaluate. JPEG "onboard processors" are now very good (I think on my D5). Don't forget that JPEG is only 8 bit (256 nuances). This might be enough depending the purpose.

If you open the NEF in CaptureNX-D and make no changes then convert to a JPG with the same level of compression the outcome should be quite identical.

To see a difference you would use the many controls available in CaptureNX-D or another program to improve the photo. Then you would convert the developed and adjusted NEF to JPG and the results might be fairly similar to very different. When you work with the NEF there is a lot of flexibility and the choice is yours.

If VNX2 or CNX-D crashes in the same folder while creating thumbnails a file probably has been straightened and not cropped. I verified this very carefully a few times. I type this over and over. I wonder if anyone notices? I wonder if anyone has checked and confirmed this? Maybe someone has put a spell on me?
