How to light a small stage from scratch?

The musicians don't want to think about light, but they want a nice atmosphere and good shots for documentation purposes, so I took charge of the lighting.

There isn't a huge amount of money to spend, so I guess that something along the lines of a string of light bulbs is currently the best option. It looks as if all candidate rooms so far have a power outlet.

It there is a power outlet, one or a few bare light bulbs hanging high from the ceiling would be the best to retain the night atmosphere.

Akira has pointed to the simplest solution, assuming you can access the ceiling or rafters above.  2 or 3 150W parabolic flood light bulbs in cheap clamp-on fixtures could do the job.  Make sure any thing you hang is safe from falling on to the people below.  Tie them up with rope or wire if necessary.
