Cape Sparrow
« on: December 18, 2016, 14:13:03 »
Catch of the day. I also got the usual garden birds today, Malachite kingfisher, Malachite Sunbird, but this was the special one. Sometimes it's the simple things in life you want to remember. Taken with the 200-500 - Dont you just love the creamy background!
(The original is sharp - seriously!  :( )

Common bird, uncommon shot. Keep it up Elsa with the 200-500.

Elsid it's true - these birds were a dime a dozen when I grew up - and for many years they were almost never seen where I now live. So I am totally in love with these things for nostalgic reasons :)

Cute bird!
Did someone steal his tale?  Not an uncommon occurrence to lose a tale.

Fred - good observation.
It is a juvenile - hence the short tail. his colours are still a tad lighter too than that of his daddy.
You are right on the loosing of tail - it seems to be a thing with more than one of the animal species :)

I'm wondering how the little critter can fly without a tail.

Thy do :)
Remember the Juvenile Malachite Kingfishers I also posted - check - no tail. and they already fly and fish for themselves - even though the parents are still feeding them
