When removable, I always replace the original foot/lens colar to a RRS/Kirk/Markins in all my Nikons

Look here
http://www.photoproshop.com/Lens-Gear/Lens-Holder/Kirk-Lens-support-bracket-for-Nikon-200-500mm.html
To this type of lens, where the leverage is so high on the colar, a front support is a much better solution.

Definitely a better solution
but none of the replacement collars i have seen so far are equipped with a lens strap mount option

Hi Mongo
.            I have seen a Part from Mengs ( Gumptrade ).
The item is a L200, quotes it is a Telephoto Zoom Support.
Have not seen a suggested zoom range, worth a look at though.

It's a general support not specific dedicated to any zoom.
Quality is really bad, I don't recommend it.

There are some from Promediagear, but they don't have for the zoom.
Instead use this:

Dave, have tried a Wurth dry lub teflon based, but results were not worthwhile.

I would not use a Teflon based lubricant, only pure Teflon in a liquid vehicle that dries leaving only pure Teflon.

I would generally appreciate if Mongo would write more about his experience with the lens (all other aspects). I had some trouble with the long zoom throw that generally was very slow to move for example. In the end I exchanged the lens for the 4/300PF because I had to much trouble and was generally demotivated to carry the 2300g while the 750g of the 300PF are with me very often.

Frank, Mongo wrote a review of the lens last year. Since then, everything in that review has held true. The only additional matter is that Mongo now thinks the collar and foot assembly is overall, not adequate for the long term.

Your purchase of the new 300mm f4 was a very good alternative even though Mongo thinks the new 300 f4 is over priced. Mongo has used one and found it to be a very good lens. Only disadvantage is the shorter reach and, if using converters, the hassle of taking them on and off the lens. Having said that, Mongo still goes back now and then to using his AFS version of the 300 f4 with converters (x1.4 and x1.7 when he wants a lighter combination to carry. This gives very good to excellent results and Mongo would expect that your newer 300mm f4 would give even better results.

hope this helps

yes the other solution is to use the arca type coupling for mounting a strap. I dont fully trust these on the one hand and i prefer an independent solution so i dont need to unmount the strap when mounting the lens on a tripod or monopod

It looks from one of the photos as if the strap can stay on and mounts on a tripod.  The quality of the illustrations is poor and text nonexistent, so it's hard to be sure, but if you go through the little  illustrations and enlarge them, I think that's what I'm seeing.

I have one  ;)

The straps are connected to a quick release arca-swiss plate.
You just lock the plate to a compatible lens foot and unlock it when not needed.
