Hello everybody,
I found out about these forums from Bjørn Rørslett's lens survey pages. I've been using Nikon cameras since 1989 and have always had at least one F2 in my collection since then. Other cameras have come and gone, but I've always hung onto at least one F2. I have a modest collection of Nikkors -- about a dozen lenses -- and about a half-dozen Nikon film cameras, ranging from an early F to an F4 and N80. I do not own any Nikon digital gear other than a Coolpix L28 P&S digicam.
I've been a Canon shooter even longer than Nikon. I've been using Canon since 1983. I sort of switched to Nikon for a while back in 1989, but it didnt' last very long because I almost immediately bought my wife an EOS Rebel so she'd have a snapshot camera. I added a couple of lenses to the outfit over the years and when it finally came time to buy into DSLR technology, I chose Canon since I already had lenses. That was about eight years ago. Using that EOS DSLR was frustrating. It was a cheap one -- more money than I'd ever spent on a camera before, but it was still Canon's entry level.
These days, I'm a multiple brand owner. I own probably 20-some odd film SLRs (yes I still shoot film!) and lenses from most of the majors. Because I have a large selection of manual focus lenses, one of the things I've enjoyed doing was shooting with them with my DSLR. But I wasn't able to use any of my Canon FD lenses because of registration issues. So, a couple years ago, I bought a clean used Sony NEX 7. And immediately after that, I bought adapters for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and a couple others. It's been a real hoot using some of my nice glass with my NEX 7. As much as I like my NEX, though, I can see where a DSLR is still superior in some ways. There's nothing quite like having a good optical finder, for example. So one of these days in the not too distant future, I hope to be buying a full frame DSLR. I haven't made my mind up, honestly, whether it will be Nikon or Canon. One 'plus' in Canon's column is I know all my EF lenses will work with a current EOS model. So I think some of it may depend on whether the three AF Nikkors I have will work with a current-tech FX Nikon.
Well, that's about it. Nice to be here, and I'll see you on the boards.
