Famous Folly Beach tree a victim of Hurricane Matthew. We had to evacuate (twice!) from this storm and as usual (whew) it was not as bad as predicted. After we returned to our little island I went down to the west end to see the damage. The tree pictured has been a photographic subject of mine since 2001. Originally it was around 150 ft. from the beach, buried in sand dunes with only the tallest branches showing. Tides, storms and beach re-nourishment have all conspired to make it appear as if the tree moved forward and backward as conditions warranted. I have seen many images of this monument taken by visiting photographers on various websites over the years. It was a popular subject. Unfortunately the tree is no more.
I feel this image is fairly representative of what once was. D700, 35 1.4G stitched.
