he has a strong beak, legs and feet. It looks like it has a tough and roughed existence but gentle eyes. It is nicely isolated in these images and caught virtually unaware in the normal course of its day to day processes. It looks like a type of crow or raven ???

My first thought was Carrion Crow but yes it may well be a Raven, in either case these are big birds who bully their way around the avian world.

Great photos especially as he/she is apparently not aware of the photog!

PS. They also make a lot of noise.  >:(

These are very intelligent birds.  They even know to come to our garden late morning on weekends, because that is when they get the leavings of our breakfast.  They do not bother on weekdays.
