And yes, this technique only works to your benefit at low ISOs. When I shoot dark scenes I make sure to get the exposure as ideal in camera as possible. Shadow data starts falling apart faster and faster at higher ISOs. At ISO 100 with the D750, the amount I can lift an image is limited by the fact that the sliders do not move any further in ACR. No joke. There is obviously a limit that more extensive testing would reveal. Perhaps I will do so tomorrow, it would be ideal for with this thread freshly brewed.
