Unusual For a Snail
« on: June 25, 2016, 08:58:41 »

A image of a snail, not such a common subject, I believe it was reaching out in a search for another support, creating this unusually seen posture.
I got a bit excited by the opportunity to capture this moment, and when viewing later, I enjoyed the effect created by the subject isolation in the frame.

Wonderful. The Explorer snail.

You captured the tense moment really well!

Hi Tristin
The comments received by all viewers are much appreciated.
The lens used was a Nikon 300mm f2.8 ED IF ais. I had a dandelion chip working on this lens and was using focus trap as the shutter release control.
I have come to learn this lens excels at subject isolation. I have intended to, but to date, never used a extension ring to achieve a closer focus, but have used it on a modified TC 16A.
I thoroughly enjoy this combination and now use the TC on a recently purchased 500mm F4P.
The snail as a subject is not commonly sought after, but when you look at the textures in the Shell and Body, it seems to be a good subject to test handheld techniques.

I think snails make for good subjects. Mine here are usually cruising up a wall - which doesnt make for a good image. I like this one a lot.

I agree with that.

Also, not easy to get a close up shot with all the shell sharp. ;)

I like your image.

Wonderful shot. I was momentarily surprised that you could manually focus "wildlife" this well with a 300 ais lens but then I thought it is a snail after all!

After looking at it again, apart from some dust I noticed, I would crop a bit from the top and from the left.
So that the lovely and sharp snail would pop out a fracture :)
