Successful Kickstart for new calibration solution

Currently I see X-Rite which swallowed Gretag a few years back and a software solution by BasicColor that seems to use X-Rite hardware.

It seems to be a good idea to have a second player in the market. Chances are good:

This looks interesting and as you say some competition can't do any harm.

That's certainly interesting, though I find it slightly worrying that they have a $20k goal. That's not a lot of money for creating both the hardware and the software.

I always have a close look to KickStarter / seed money projects.  But I still do not see what will be their competitive advantage against e.g. Datacolor / Spyder
