Birds from Local Lake
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:43:39 »
A mixed bag of common birds at the local National Park lake.

For those interested, in order of appearance:-

Australian Female Wood Duck (D4s, 200-500mm f5.6)
Australian Male Wood Duck (D4s, 200-500mm f5.6)
Night Heron (D800E, AFSII 600mm f4)
Australian Wood Duck chick (D800E, AFSII 600mm f4)
Large mature White Heron (x2) (D800E, AFSII 600mm f4)
Smaller White Heron (x3) (D800E, AFSII 600mm f4 with X 1.4EII)

As a general rule, for very distant shots, Mongo prefers the D800E over the D4s for  its file size which allows for greater cropping with much less loss of IQ.
Mongo was pleasantly surprised by the IQ of some images (not included here) taken with the 200-500mm at distance (55 to 60 metres from the metadata). Although, it should be noted that it took the calibration of both camera bodies and the lens to get the result. The more distant of the attached images were shot in the range of 51 to 60 metres albeit with the 600mm lens.

I have to say, the 200-500 is a high quality lens in a skilful pair of hands.
I particularly like the second shot.

thank you guys for your overly kind comments. Very glad you looked in and liked them.

In relation to the darker shots (e.g #2), Mongo often prefers the lower light images as they tend not to leach out the colour and they remain deeper and richer.

Yes, exquisite. I have a special something for the last one. Those lines are alive and the background colors and darkness complete an image that can be out of a Frazetta fantasy ilustration. I meant it a huge compliment.

Thanks to Mongo for sharing this.
