The persons are not close enough together to be easily perceived as a group, unless the title is taken into account.

I think you have been too far away this time. The more up close style makes your images easier to digest.

Thank you for the feedback BR.  I was definitely further away than I wanted to be, but there was too much traffic in the four lanes of I-35 feeder road keeping me at bay.

Closer would be better, but there is the funny aspect of their expressions. Mom is elated, teenage girls look anywhere from uninterested to annoyed. Ha. Been there.

This crop actually is much more successful in conveying the scene you observed, Ron. We now better understand why you poked the camera in this direction. I surmise this was 200-500 in action and if so, testifies to its excellent image quality.

I tend to disagree with "The Master" (just teasing), as I enjoy the whole scene better. Maybe it is just me and my attraction to messy images and situations...

BR, this was shot with a 24-120 @ 120mm.  I walked all over town that day, easily 10 k.  Had I been toting the 200-500 I would never have survived  This crop is roughly a 200 mm FOV.  I had the 24-120 on my D800, carying no other gear, an approach I use on long walking tours.  I definitely agree, the tighter crop is an improvement.  There are no rules, only suggestions and guidelines.
