A change in the weather?

Woke up (late) this morning to unexpected frost and unfamiliar brightness.

This is Glen Ogle about 11am and the round bright thing in the middle is called “the sun”, or so I'm told.

Lovely image Dave  .  Great composition, love the mist and the detail on the ice.

 Being very selfish, I hope all of the members here from the northern Lats. start getting some cold weather (I need some more Smilies for that comment  ) .
None of the usual Migrant birds have appeared and all of the Birders are saying the weather up in the far north is confusing the birds    I only go out in the early morning every few day to see if anything happening.  At least the local Osprey is back  .

Been well in the -10 to -20C range over here for some time. Some parts of Norway have seen down to -42C.

Dave: nice moody capture. Thin ice can provide fascinating opportunities. Have you tried the old polariser trick? Very efficient for close-ups of ice with water present.

Thanks, everybody, for the very kind comments. This is only the second night's frost we've had this winter; until today I've mostly been finding out what I can shoot in continuous rain and heavy overcast.    So today felt really good.   

Fons - yes - the dynamic range, as shot, was huge and quite a lot of adjustment was required.

Bjørn - I don't carry a polarising filter as a rule; lost the habit years ago tho' actually I have pola filters in nearly all the common Nikon sizes. But I'll try what you suggest.

Dave , your image inspired me to take some additional cameras out yesterday when I was birding.   We normally get ground fog and mist starting about this time of year but not yet.  A hint of rolling mist on the water but only this:


Shame that there is no way I can make Scotland, some lessons would certainly help    Not to mention the more inspiring landscapes and the fact that I love driving around Scotland

Tom - I wonder when you were last in Scotland? We have been thinking of a trip to India - we haven't been there since our son was 15 (he' s now 34), so perhaps it's time!

Frank, 1999  . Made the mistake of driving to Mull in late July-early August via the Lake District on the way up and Argyll on the return.  I swear, every second car seemed to be from Germany  .  In the mid-70's my work took me to Aberdeen, Wick (Thurso) , Greenock and Campbeltown twice a year.  The trips normally took 3 to 5 weeks.  I always stopped in Inverness to stay with old friends.   I rented a Morgan for one trip , great fun but every part of my body ached for a couple of weeks  . I normally took my VW Camper so I could loiter on my drive  .    Love that drive from Tongue to Greenock.  I'm a big fan of the West Coast.  Should have bought a place in Oban in 1975  .  In those days I was still shooting the Nikkormat     The drive from Inverness to Fort William is another great trip 

Parts of India have changed dramatically since I moved here in 1998.  Other parts are still pretty much the same (rural areas) .   Goa falls into the Drastic category  .

I've been to Scotland and Ireland during the 1990s. I did not have a driving license so I bought a rambler ticket or
went hitchhiking. All very nice because I could step out to take photos wherever I lieked to.
