Waiting for the Red Rocket
« on: December 20, 2015, 02:05:11 »
Here in Toronto, for many years, our streetcars have been called Red Rockets, because of their red with beige trimmed paint jobs.
Last winter, while downtown on a cold wet and slushy day, I noticed a group waiting in a public transit shelter for the streetcar to arrive.
The composition seen through the filthy pane seemed to represent the feeling of a really miserable winter's day.
motorized Nikon F2AS
Tamron SP 35~105 2.8 AIS manual focus
Fuji 100 ISO colour slide

I shoot with film. That's film. F...i...l...m. You remember film. It was in all the papers.

The empty coffee cup to the extreme left is the perfect reminder of the busy and drab city setting conveyed by the other elements.

The "film" look actually adds to the final image (not always the case).

For the non Canadian residents amongst us; a streetcar is a tram, and yes I had to look it up ;D

Great shot Robert, good to have on board at NG again.

Btw, would you be so kind to put your first name in your signature so we all know how to call you?

Cheers,
Jan Anne

In India, we call them tram; in North America - streetcar! :)

Very interesting shot and I admire the fact how you came up with this composition while you were there. The graffiti, glow signs far away - everything adding additional dimensions.
