Here is the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 APO lens on the Nikon D810 at ISO 64, showing a grape leaf, and then a 100% crop of the edge of the leaf so that we can see the detail.

Amazing detail.  Seems like what we used to consider medium-format territory.

I agree, something like that. I sold my medium-format camera some time ago and almost all of the eleven very-heavy lenses I had. I don't regret it. My guess is that another bump in megapixels (like 54 mpx) will lock it in. What we are experiencing in cameras is what happened in jazz music. It was called Fusion.

Was that leaf about the size of a hand? Were you at minimum focus? Wonderful detail.

Wonderful clarity.
It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison between the Zeiss Otus and old-time Nikon classics like the AI 55/3.5 micro. The Nikon may not be APO but it is optimized for macro so it might be a worth competitor.

This is really beautiful. All the resolution power brought to very good pictorial use. Thank you!

Very impressive details.

In regards to medium format, I would expect them to advance as well? Something like the new Phase One system with an 80Mpixel chip and suitable lens. Would be interesting to see a comparison.
