Fun images.  Number 4 reminds of driving Route 66 in the Southwest when I was young.  Some time nothing for miles except Burma Shave Billboards and signs telling you to stop and see the two headed rattlesnake  :) .  Then you would hit Navajo country and at least have the roadside huts selling turquois , silver and rugs  (should have bought much more  :) ) .

The last one is cool, the two women being bookends for the girl  ;)

Seeing your photos always brings a smile to my face. They are 'obvious' without being obvious in any way and you can return all times to enjoy new observations and reflections. Plus, the b/w conversions really are outstanding. They don't have that 'dullness' about them that so often mar digital b/w work.

The first one reminded me of a lyric line by Dire Straits (Money for Nothing)

Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free

Thanks, Tom and Bjorn, for the comments.

Tom, I took a road trip to Austin and whenever I take these road trips, I always leave time for stopping along the way and shooting whatever my eye catches.   Sometimes, the trip itself is more fun than the final destination.

Bjorn, I grew up fascinated by the photos taken by Garry Winogrand and Elliott Erwitt.  Both photographers brought a very sly sense of humor to their photography, something I try myself although I am not near as successful as those two gentlemen.  Still, I keep trying.

My technique for processing my B&W work is really very simple- pretty much the same things I did in a wet darkroom.  I think what makes the images "pop" a bit is the amount of time I spend on processing them.  I am a stickler for detail and I want the images to almost have a "3-D" look to them and I also want the images to look normal to the human eye, which, as we all know, is very different than what the eye of the camera sees.   It is not unusual for me to spend an hour or more on an image- usually much longer than that.  Sometimes I will process an image and let it sit for a few days and come back and start again.  It is very reminiscent of how I used to make wet prints.

By the way, Dire Straits is one of my favorite bands.  I saw them live in Dallas several years ago.

Rick, it is a trip... Firts one strike as surreal with a nice "contrapunto" between the characters; forth one feels out of time and I love the man in the light -what a character- in oposition with the silouette and how you manage to put the kiosk dead center and compensate with little details to give movement.
Last one is the one that catches my imagination the most. Same place, same moment, a big variety of peole all their feet oriented diferently and looking in yet another direction with odd mix attitudes. Very special space-time human point.

I like Dire Straits too and specially "Money for Nothing" :)

Great ones, Rick. Agree with all the above comments. I prefer the last one especially as an impressive slice of (street)life.
