Winter came early....

....in the Daisetzusan region, Hokkaido. Taken a couple of weeks ago during a three week trip to Hokkaido. This is a mountain area that is renowned for its deep powder snow.

I'm not exactly from the area, but these images remind me of the feelings I always had at the begining of the winter.  Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for commenting, Bjørn, Dave and Akira.

The early snow caught us by surprise - we had to cancel two hikes because of deep snow at the top, even though we had crampons - not hard packed yet.

It also caught the local flora by surprise:
